Google Says “ Time to say good bye to Orkut ”

Google just has declared recently to close its very first social media.

Yes we are talking about “Orkut”. After a long historical journey of 10 years orkut is now going to shut down.

Short History of Orkut.

As we all know Orkut is a social networking website that is owned and operated by Google. The website is named after its creator, Google employee “Orkut Büyükkökten”. It gots popularity World wide but most of its users are in brazil and india.

• Originally hosted in California but moved to brazil in August 2008 and now it is operated by Google Brazil.

• Alexa traffic ranked the  Orkut.com 6101th  and 4718th  by Orkut.com.br in the world.

• Orkut and facebook were founded in the same year 2004.

• According to internet statics about 50% users were from brazil and 20.8% from india ,USA and Pakistan users were 17.8% and 0.86 Respectively.

• On October 2009 orkut released its major profile and redesign update which leaves a message black  hole in the privacy settings.

• Fake profiles were created.

• Many hate group were using orkut to spread the racism,Nazism and white supremacy.

• Many worms and viruses were spreaded like mw.orc and w3 which steals your private details and lets you join the viral communities.

• Many legal  issues were rosed on usage of orkut due to spreading of hate communities and campaign . Bombay high court served a notice to  google for allowing of hate campaign against india  listed “we hate india”. And was noticed by Brazilian federal judge ordered Google to release the list of about 24 brazilian who were using the orkut to sell  drugs and spreading the child pornography.

• On recent blog posts google has clearly indicated that its pacing out orkut social website  just to focus on its major websites and products . The social giant facebook overcome orkut in 2010 with more than 20.09 million users as compared to 19.9 million users of orkut. We all onlook the slow groth rate of  orkut and now its  no longer in race of social media . The Final statement comes on Monday 30 june 2014.

What Google said in his orkut blog post.

“Over the past decade, YouTube, Blogger and Google+ have taken off, with communities springing up in every corner of the world. Because the growth of these communities has outpaced its growth, we've decided to bid Orkut farewell .”

Officially Orkut will be shut down on  30 ,September, 2014. Until then,

You can normally login ,play games and use your account . You can export your photo albums to google+ You can save your profile,scraps,testimonials and community posts using google takeout. After 30 september you will not be able to Log in to your account You can’t export your photo albums Apps , Apis and games will be no longer available. The company would preserve an archive of all Orkut "communities" that will be available from September 30. “If you don't want your posts or name to be included in the community archive, you can remove Orkut permanently from your Google.
